Garnacha, Carignan

“ATZAR” is a new label from “Mas la Mola”, for the Off Trade. The wine wants to represent the best expression of fruit, soil ad climate of Priorat. Jordi wanted to created a wine that would offer the structure of the great wines from Priorat, but with a more fruit driven, modern approach in order to create a blend that can be enjoyed anytime. Juicy and fruit driven with tender tannins and fresh acidity. Smooth and luscious on the palate with a grippy texture,hints of herbs and spices and a long flesh berry and black cherry finish.

Terroir

The fruit is sourced from various parcels of the Poboleda, Gratallops , La Vilella Alta villages of Priorat, where the native Garnacha (here spelt Garnatxa) and Carinyena varieties thrive in the unique microclimate and Licorella slate slopes. Long, warm, dry days and cool nights give perfect phenolic ripeness and good levels of natural acidity to balance the powerful character of the fruit.

Viticulture

The L’Atzar vines were allowed to be a bit more vigorous in order to allow the fruit to ripen slowly and retain freshness. A rigorous selection of fruit took place in the vineyard, followed by a long cool maceration to extract the fine tannins. The wine was aged for a short period of 7 months in 500 litters old Barriques , in order to round out the texture rather than add oak flavours. And a percentage remained in stainless steel for a few months before bottling to add and extra freshness.

Recommendation

Ideal with barbeque,strong cheeses,pasta and spicy dishes.
